Refurbishing Block 3

Focus on Repurposing to Reduce Impact

There has been considerable discussion lately about reducing building emissions by repurposing older structures instead of demolishing them and starting anew. The Irish Life building on Abbey Street serves as a prime example of this trend.

The redevelopment of Block 3 of Irish Life’s Headquarters in Dublin 1 has now begun. As the tallest building in the Irish Life Centre, this project, approved in March 2022, aims to significantly enhance both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the office space. The development includes the addition of a new 10th floor and a complete refurbishment of the interior to promote increased collaboration among employees and improved staff amenities, including a new garden pavilion above the three-storey atrium restaurant area.

In line with Irish Life’s commitment to meeting its ESG (environmental, social, and governance) goals, the new Block 3 will be a nearly zero energy building (nZEB). This means the minimal energy required will be largely supplied by renewable sources. Irish Life is also striving to achieve an A-rated BER for the building.

Diffusion’s Energy Saving Fancoils, lead the market with low SFPs

We are delighted to be involved in this redevelopment of this landmark building and have recently delivered Diffusion EnergySaving 270 Fancoils and Petinaroli Vortex PICV Assemblies.

This project is centered on a commitment to energy efficiency, reflected in every design and specification detail. With stringent energy rating criteria demanding top-tier SFP levels, the Diffusion 270EC Fan Coil was chosen for its exceptional efficiency. The EnergySaver FCU offer the lowest Specific Fan Powers (SFPs) on the market.

By incorporating this advanced technology, Metec and DMG Engineering have ensured optimal comfort for occupants while significantly reducing the building’s environmental footprint.

Pettinaroli Vortex PICV Assembly

Pettinaroli’s versatile range of PICV assemblies for fan coils, offers significant benefits over standard products – for consultants, contractors, commissioning engineers and building operators / owners.

The valve assembly is a modular approach to meeting the flushing, flow balancing, isolation, and temperature control requirements of each terminal unit.

Pettinaroli’s pre-fabricated valve assemblies ensure that everything required for a successful connection is supplied in one package.
